01 / Problem
Design white-label credit cards for Railsr’s emerging CCAS product
Railsr, a Banking as a Platform (BaaP) business based in London, was expanding into the US market with a new Credit Card as a Service (CCAS) product. The product offered customers a faster way to market through pre-approved designs, regulatory compliance, banking partnerships, and embedded financial components.
Project Goals:
Universal card design to accommodate client brands
Maintain an elevated look and feel, unlike other white-label cards
Spur engagement. Look and feel desirable enough to sit “top of wallet.”
02 / Contribution
I worked with our card vendor and provider to gain feedback on designs, understand budget constraints, and iterate on solutions.
I deconstructed industry-standard cards into their essential elements, and asked why how we can do things differently.
Inspired by industry disruptors like Apple, I designed concepts that used clean cut lines and minimal colors to blend simplicity with an elevated feel.
Materials like transparent cards were proposed for their brand-adaptability, but were ruled out due to time constraints.
03 / Solution
The card uses minimalist colors and clean-cut lines to emphasize usability and inspire use.
Using shades of black and white, I was able to dilute the feeling of existing branding, and create a stealth-like elevated feel. Inspired by the weight and prestige of metal cards, I opted for a dense card-core and used brushed foil and to add an eye-catching reflective edge.
Using shades of black and white, I was able to dilute the feeling of existing branding, and create a stealth-like elevated feel.
A tactile matte finish along the opposite end of the card inspired touch, making sure the brand’s name is visible when in use.
When sitting in a wallet, the reflective edge stands out, and draws attention to the brand name.
